Russian River Cuvée has multiple layers of meaning. Originally named for the historic Reagan-Gorbachev Summit Meetings in 1985, it also refers to the vineyard’s unique location in the Russian River area, and it is a reference to the 19th century taste of the Tsars for richer bubbly that made Cristal famous. The Russian River is the “richest” in the Iron Horse line up, though still technically brut-level dry.
“It’s wonderful that America has a signature sparkling that we can rely on.”
“Sleek and succulent, with appealing strawberry and apple flavors that take on cinnamon and brioche accents on the long finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now.” 92 points – Tim Fish
TASTING NOTES
A delicate bouquet of lemon meringue greets the nose, underscored by subtle hints of toasted brioche. On the palate, vibrant notes of blood orange peel unfold, giving way to a richly textured core that reveals the warmth of spiced poached pear. The wine carries through to a lingering, memorable finish that invites another sip.
WINEMAKER NOTES
The dosage for this wine is 5 mls Brut LEX. 5 mls Blanc de Noirs LEX, and 4 mls 2020 North Block Pinot Noir.
We are extremely lucky in our region to have many micro climates that bring us Meyer lemons from January until June. This recipe makes about 8-10 individual pastry strips topped with the lemon curd. Pairs perfectly with Iron Horse Russian Cuvee.
