We have been extremely lucky so far this harvest. Knock wood. Our summer has been cool to chilly to downright cold, living up to our reputation as cool, foggy Green Valley. We have loved it!
This weather is less taxing on the vines, saves water, and allows more flavor to accumulate in the grapes. Our air quality has been good. The crop is likely to end up smaller than last year, but that will just make our wines all the more sought after.
We started picking August 11 – Pinot Noir from up on Thomas Road for Sparkling Wine. Thomas Road is the highest most westerly ledge on the property. The fruit is exquisite. My mother says it is the best she has ever seen, which is quite a statement as 2021 is our 45th vintage at Iron Horse.
We are very proud Iron Horse has been named one of Wine & Spirits’ Top 100 wines of the year. This the 17th time we have been so honored.
Harvest is a great time to come visit. There’s nothing quite like tasting a grape before it goes into the press. And we would love to welcome you.
As always, our tastings are outdoors, and we remain very buttoned down on our Covid precautions per the county health department regulations. Lately we have been pouring Joy! on the weekends. This is our best of the best, aged 15 years en tirage and with a new dosage. Please remember to make a reservation.
