A focus on quality
Iron Horse is at the heart of Green Valley, 13 miles from the Pacific as the crow flies. There are approximately 160 acres in vine, planted exclusively to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir - with gentle, rolling hills, and a spectacular view from the winery clear across Sonoma County to Mount St. Helena. The predominant soil-type is called “Gold Ridge”, a sandy loam that has excellent drainage and is perfectly balanced, making it one of the most coveted for growing Pinot Noir.
Iron Horse wines are about “place”
Iron Horse produces exclusively estate bottled wines imbuing a distinct "sense of place”. They are specific to the Green Valley AVA, our vineyard and the vintage. We never resort to "recipe” winemaking.
The wines are elegant, bright, focused, highly nuanced, soft and silky. They exude quality and class. Above all, winemaker David Munksgard strives for exquisite balance. His favorite vintage is always the one coming up.
New to the team is Assistant Winemaker Megan Hill.
Love of the land
Iron Horse is our business and our home. Three generations live on the property, ranging in age from 23 to 88. In the vineyards, the winery, the gardens, our lifestyle and community life, we strive to put back more than we take out. Anyone who comes to Iron Horse can see and feel our love of the land.
